West Ham United’s boss Slaven Bilic speaking to the club’s official website said that Andre Ayew is very close to making it back into his starting line-up.
The Ghanaian striker joined West Ham from Swansea City during the summer transfer window, but the forward’s impact at the London Stadium has been limited.
Ayew picked up an injury on hid West Ham debut, which kept him out for over two months.
However, the former Olympique Marseille striker came on as a substitute during West Ham’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup fixture on Wednesday.
Bilic said; “He is very close to starting”
“It was crucial for him to get some game-time, because he had a long break from the first game of the season, and it’s great to have him back”
“He’s been training with the group for a couple of weeks now and came on and did really good against Chelsea. He looked fit and aggressive, so it’s great to have him back.”
Ayew scored 10 goals for the Swans in the Premier League last season, and is expected to boost West Ham’s attack.
Ayew is returning at a point when the Hammers are in good form, after winning their last three matches in succession.
West Ham’s next match comes on Sunday against Everton, where Ayew is once again likely to feature in Bilic’s match day squad.
