German club Schalke 04 are ready to make the loan move of winger Yevhen Konoplyanka permanent this summer.
The 27-year-old joined Schalke from Sevilla on a season-long loan last summer with an option to sign on a permanent deal if all parties agree and enough appearances are made.
Konoplyanka has struggled for form in Germany, starting just four games this term but Schalke sporting executive Christian Heidel feels there is plenty more to come from the Ukraine international.
“Even though he did not make the squad today, you have to clearly say that we would like to and will keep him,” Heidel told reporters following the 1-1 draw at Cologne on Sunday.
“We believe that Kono can be very, very important for us. Nobody at Schalke doubts his footballing qualities.”
