Super Eagles’ Coach, Gernot Rohr, has urged Nigerians to trust the choice of goalkeepers invited for the World Cup Qualifying clash against Cameroon.
The choice of goalkeepers caused an uproar, particularly since Daniel Akpeyi – who many deemed to have conceded two ‘easy’ goals against South Africa – look like the favourite to replace Carl Ikeme.
Rohr said: “You know that we are unfortunate with our goalkeepers, one is sick (Ikeme) the other is injured (Enyeama) and he is just recovering, may be later we can have him, but it’s too early for him to make a comeback.”
Akpeyi has come under fire following Nigeria’s 0-2 loss to South Africa, but the 31 year old Chippa United shot stopper was once again picked by coach Rohr in the squad for the upcoming back to back World Cup 2018 Qualifiers clash against Cameroon.
“We have Akpeyi, we have Ezenwa, we have Alampasu, we will see. We have a local goalkeeper, we have a very young one and we have another one (Akpeyi) who is more experienced, he is playing in South Africa , and we will see with our goalkeeper coaches to determine who will start the game.” Rohr said
