Super Eagles assistant captain Eddy Onazi has withdrawn from the Nigeria squad ahead of their games against Algeria and Argentina.
The midfielder is expected to spend the next 2-3 weeks on the sidelines after sustaining an injury in Trabzonspor’s goalless draw away at Kayserispor on Saturday.
”The scan result was concluded and it’s a grade ‘A’ injury. If I go to play for the national team, it will only aggravate, so it’s better I have my club take care of it,” Onazi told aoifootball.com.
”A special doctor has been assigned to me and I hope to bounce back after the international break.
”I am confident the team will have a good outing in both games, because we have lots of young and fantastic players that can step-up anytime, any day to deliver; with this, I am confident the guys will give a good account in both games.”
Odion Ighalo and Moses Simon have already pulled out of the squad due to injuries, however Gernot Rohr has called up Girona forward Kayode Olanrewaju and Kenneth Omeruo as replacements for the injured duo.
Kayode, who last featured for the Super Eagles in the 2-0 loss to South Africa in Uyo, will be hoping for a better outing with the national team against Algeria and Argentina.
The forward was by far the better player on the pitch during his 15 minutes cameo, pegging the rampaging South Africans backwards and was denied a goal due to Etebo’s poor decision when the forward was left unmarked.
Meanwhile, Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s John Ogu has returned to action two weeks earlier than expected and was in action for his club over the weekend.
John Ogu came through the game against Maccabi Petah Tikva unscathed, completing all ninety minutes after seating out the second leg of Hapole Be’er Sheva’s Europa League clash against Steaua Bucharest on Thursday.
Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme will arrive the super eagles camp today alongside Kenneth Omeruo – who was equally drafted in — after the defender ended any doubts with a post on his social media account.
Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Ahmed Musa, Wilfred Ndidi and Mikel Agu have also arrived in camp with the other invited players expected later today.
