With the January window creeping up on us the rumour mills across Europe are working on overdrive and the good folk over at the Express have some news regarding what Manchester United’s plans for the winter window are.

With Antonio Valencia very much on the wrong side of 30, and without a decent replacement in sight at Carrington, they are looking across the Channel at oil-rich Paris Saint-Germain and are giving Thomas Meunier the eyes.

Relegated to second choice by the arrival of Dani Alves from Juventus, the 26-year-old Belgian is reportedly anxious for a move – and Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward would love to arrange one for him, it appears.

Meunier is a late-bloomer who moved to PSG just last year for a reported €7 million from Club Brugge and was a fixture for the Parisians ever since; well till Alves came around, that is and is Belgium’s first choice leading to the World Cup.

He bagged his first career hat trick (and four assists along the way) during Belgium’s 9-0 rout of Gibraltar earlier this year and he has been highly praised for his attacking capabilities and accurate crossing.

While Valencia is a Mourinho favourite, the reports suggest that he is looking for an alternative, a plan B as he prepares for what is sure to be a tough, congested run-in at the end of the season – the idea, of course, being that United will be competitive in all the competitions they are in at the time.
