Manchester United defender Chris Smalling narrowly avoided getting a ticket after almost being caught out.
Reports on The Sun claim the Manchester United defender was just leaving a coffee shop in Hale.
He had his wife Sam Cook to thank for not being hit with a fine after she outpaced him to beat the traffic warden to the punch.
Smalling look concerned he would get a parking ticket when he saw the warden loitering by his Mercedes 4X4.
But it was all smiles for the couple.
And the traffic warden was even kind enough to hold the door open.
Smalling was back in Manchester after being overlooked by England boss Gareth Southgate for the recent friendlies against Germany and Brazil which finished goalless.
The Three Lions gaffer publicly admitted he had opted not to select the United man as he wanted players better suited to playing out from the back.
Smalling started the season on the bench under Jose Mourinho but has slowly worked his way back into the side.
He will be hoping to keep up his form and play his way into Southgate’s plans for Russia.
Smalling, 27, was part of the England squads for the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016.
