Juan Mata turned down a staggering £375,000-a-week after tax to join the Chinese Super League.
According to The Sun, the Manchester United star was offered the mind-blowing sum by league chiefs while they were visiting last month’s Soccerex convention.
The Spanish midfielder who has just 12-months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford currently earns £170,000-a-week.
But he wants to extend his contract and remain in Manchester, with United expected to take up his option of a further year on his contract.
Although it is not known which club offered Mata the huge terms, a number of Chinese Super League clubs are thought to be interested in the 29-year-old who isn’t considered a starter at United.
According to the report, a source disclosed that: “Juan was offered a sizable amount of money to go to China. They were visiting last month and made it to his reps.
“He sees his future here though and is determined to stay. He hasn’t got long left but the option on his contract will almost certainly be taken up.
“The club don’t want him to leave on a free next summer. He is represented by his dad and has been pushing for a longer-term deal.”
Mata joined United from Chelsea for a then club-record £37.1m in 2014 and has made 118 appearances and scored 28 goals.
