Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has reveaed he was impressed with fourth choice goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa’s performance during the World Cup Qualifiers.
The FC Ifeanyi Ubah stopper had to step in after Daniel Akpeyi pulled out injured just hours to the first game on Friday.
Although the goalkeeper looked shaky at some point during the game, the overall impression is that he did well enough.
“Ezenwa did very well again, today. There was the penalty, but then he made a very big save toward the end of the game. He did very well over in both games.”
“You know he’s our fourth choice goalkeeper, you know Enyeama is injured, Ikeme is sick and cannot play and Akpeyi is injured also,”
“So, it was a big problem for us to find a goalkeeper for these games against the Champions of Africa.
“And when you see that he conceded just one goal (from a penalty) against the Champions of Africa, we are happy with his performance, but he must work again and again.”
“We have two goalkeeper trainers who have worked with Ezenwa, and he was (in goal) during the CHAN qualifiers and he did well too.”
