Heartland FC of Owerri have made a swift return to the Nigeria Professional Football League after just a season in the Nigeria National League.

Heartland, who had taken a commanding lead into Wednesday’s clash against First Bank in Lagos needed  a win out of the final two games to confirm top spot having lead the Southern Conference for most part of the season.

The Naze Millionaires, however, picked the win on the road courtesy of Okoro Ndukwe strike in the 36th minute while second placed Go Round FC slumped to a 1-0 defeat all but accelerating their party.

Heartland were relegated on the final matchday of the 2016/17 NPFL season and retained majority of their stars in a bid to make a swift return to the top flight.

The final round of games will be played on Sunday when when the second placed side in the Southern Conference will be decided.

In the Northern conference, Kwara United and Yobe Desert Stars have already secured promotion to the NPFL.
