Tthe 2017/18 UEFA Champions League season kicks off this evening with eight matches across Europe, and several African stars are poised to take center stage.

At Old Trafford, Eric Bailly is set to come up against Ivorian compatriot Serey Die in the meeting of Manchester United and Basel in Group A, while Nigerian Victor Moses will feature for Chelsea at home to Azerbaijan side Qarabag, whose attack is likely to feature South African striker Dino Ndlovu.

Henry Onyekuru, the Nigerian sensation on-loan at Anderlecht from Everton might be in line to start against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena following his brace last Friday as well as Senegalese defender Kara Mbodji.

Thomas Partey will look to take his fine form for Ghana to the European stage when Atletico Madrid head to Italy to take on Roma.

The meeting of Olympiakos and Sporting in Athens is likely to see another Nigerian international, this time, Emmanuel Emenike and Seydou Doumbia lead their respective team’s attack, while Juventus can call on Medhi Benatia and Kwadwo Asamoah for their testing clash at the Camp Nou against Barcelona.
